The controversies surrounding the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) are not yet over as another incident has taken place. A software engineer has become a victim of a data leak, and the leaker revealed that it was obtained through information-stealing malware. Not only personal information but also data on DOGE were stolen.
DOGE Software Engineer's Computer Infected by Malware
It was revealed by Dropsite News (via ArsTechnica) that a DOGE software engineer's computer has been infected by an info-stealing malware. The said dropsite revealed this software engineer to be Kyle Schutt, and the victim is not only a DOGE staff member but also works for the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
The report revealed that Schutt previously gained access to a "core financial management system" that belongs to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which the employee was assessing via DOGE.
It is speculated that Schutt was exposed to highly sensitive information under FEMA, which involves the security of civilian federal government networks as well as the United States' critical infrastructure.

Stolen Data From DOGE Staffer Leaked Online
Not only were the bad actors behind the info-stealing malware given access to Schutt's computer, but it was also leaked online via a database called "stealer logs." It was like revealed that his credentials had been shared four times since 2023.
It was also revealed that Schutt has appeared in 51 data breaches since the infection, but the report said that it is not an indication that his files were compromised.
DOGE Staffers Controversies
During the early weeks of DOGE's operations, the special agency watchdog of the Trump administration had already faced significant controversies, including that of a 19-year-old intern of DOGE who was previously fired for divulging secrets from a past company he worked for but was still given a job under Elon Musk.
That is also not the only time that a DOGE employee or member was put in the spotlight for having questionable backgrounds. Marko Elez previously resigned from his post after being exposed for his online racist posts.
Of course, there was also the massive scrutiny Elon Musk faced given his work with DOGE. Musk and DOGE were previously under fire for sharing inaccurate information on their website about being able to save $8 billion, but as spotted in their wall of receipts, they only saved $8 million.
